Ok here is my journey for you. First the picture to the left is after 6 weeks off of bootcamp due to surgery and the right one is obviously competition day. They were taken 14 weeks apart.
I might jump from subject to subject because as things pop into my head I type. Sorry in advance about that!
I’m going to start from the beginning. I started bootcamp to get in shape because I wasn’t happy with how I looked.
Did I forget to mention in there that I hate working out and hate going to the gym?!
Doing a competition was the furthest thing from my mind, I even laughed at Derek when he said I would be up there one day.
So after about a year of bootcamp, looking and feeling better I decided to challenge myself and do a mud run. I did the mud run with my 2 step-daughters and son-in-law, February of this year.
It was probably one of the craziest things I’ve ever done, but definitely one of the most fun days I’ve had!
After doing the run I started thinking about competitions and was still on the fence about it. So I talked to Robin (New Port Richey Bootcamp trainer and first time competitor in 2012) about it and she said she was interested too.
We brought it up to Derek and next thing I knew I was training for a competition. I had to take 6 weeks off for surgery but was in full force after it.
I had a crazy moment about 2 weeks before competition and was backing out of it, but after a few days of thinking things over I changed my mind and decided to go through with doing the competition.
It was the most challenging thing I’ve ever done!
I was never so nervous in my life, not even on my wedding day was I this nervous… but I sucked it up and did it!
I am so proud of myself for not quitting and giving up and trying something outside my comfort zone. I had one of my best days that day I stepped out on that stage.
Thank you so much to Derek, Robin, New Port Richey Bootcamp and all of its bootcampers, without all of you I would of never been able to do what I did.
Because of bootcamp I am in the best shape of my life!
It’s because bootcamp is fun and challenging, and always different.
This is why I love it so much.
Oh ya, one last thing!
I forgot to add, that I also did a run with fellow bootcampers this past August. I am planning to do another one in February. I’m also looking forward to doing 2 to 3 competitions next year!

We never know what any journey will bring us when we initially commit to something.
Those who know me, know that I love quotes. Here is a great one from the late Walt Disney:
“All the adversity I’ve had in my life, all my troubles and obstacles, have strengthened me… You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you.” -Walt Disney
Congratulations Melanie on your hard work and success. It is only the beginning!
