Getting started is really difficult. I have been “in the program” since May 31, and my mindset remains stubborn. I don’t like waiting to eat when I get up in the morning; I dislike working out in the heat of the outside gym, and, man-o-man do I just plain hate boot camp, particularly because of the oppressive heat and humidity! Intellectually, I know that eating at the right times and the right stuff, working out in the heat and pushing through boot camp–regardless of the heat and humidity–are all good for me–I know that. Now, I just have to get my stubborn self to conform!

So, I suppose, at nearly 63, I have to teach the old dog new tricks. I have to get back into a fitness and body-sculpting mindset. I just have to. I say “get back” because, I was squarely in the right spot 4 months ago. I was watching my diet; I was “gym-ing” 6 days a week, and I looked forward to my 3 times per week workout with my trainer. Then, the unforeseen happened–only two days apart.

First, my trainer got injured to the point that he was to be out of work for a couple months, perhaps more. Secondly, my sister-in-law died, which resulted in my partner and I going and remaining in rural northern Virginia for a couple months. I got out of my fitness routine–mostly I didn’t work out as often as I should have and could have. I didn’t like the only gym in town; I was pissed because I didn’t have my trainer with me; and I was deeply mourning the death of the dearest, sweetest person I knew. I lost my composure and I was forced into a full time role of accountant and secretary. Working out just wasn’t convenient. I went to the gym less regularly–perhaps twice a week– and I just didn’t push myself as I should have.

As soon as I got back home, I made it my business to get to the New Port Richey Boot Camp and sign up for training with Derek. I’m going through the motions; I’m seeing some improvement in appearance, but, what I need is a motivation boost. I think writing this “blog” is really helping me put my feelings into words.

I’m going to do this. I’m going to go to boot camp regularly and I am absolutely going to continue training. I’m going to sweat it out and grow. I know I can do this. And I’m doing this just for me. Period.
