What got me started?

Darlene Otto invited me to a Friend Friday – I had seen posts on Facebook and had been on the lookout for FUN ways to incorporate exercise, something different enough to hold my attention. I didn’t like to sweat – or exercise, so it had to be cardio in disguise : )

I didn’t come back until the pain went away, that was over a week later on a Monday. I didn’t like Rich much back then.

Then I met Sara – she was so kind and caring! At first I thought it was just how the newbies were treated….but later I found out that is how everybody is treated ALL the time. I also found something I didn’t even realize I was looking for – support (tons and tons of it )and accountability!!

Was there a defining moment that made you decide to join?

I was hooked during the first challenge. My reps on all the exercises had increased so much and I felt so STRONG after each session, it was a high unlike any I had ever experienced. It’s still such an adrenaline rush – without fail, after each session!!!

What were some of the initial fears and struggles you had?

Box Jumps! My body refused……

I was so used to not being able to do things that my mind would not allow my body to try……

My form was so terrible. Running gave me shin splints, and no way was I gonna lift that fricking tire!!!

I continue to amaze myself when I see what new things I can do……and I can finally jump rope!

Burpees are no longer impossible – 33? No problem!!!

Do you remember your first personal victory?

Box Jumps!

I could not lift my feet off the floor to even jump up on two pallets.

Derek stood on the pallets and took my hands and coaxed me to step up….then down, step up….then down, and again until he said okay now both feet at the same time up……and down! It was so easy……..??!!

I can do three pallets now and sometimes even four and I will continue to improve : )

What are some goals that you have accomplished already?

My FIRST mud run!! That was such a huge accomplishment!! I will never forget that experience – EVER!

There were so many from Bootcamp, from beginners to experts……and we all did it together. There was help at each and every obstacle and even someone to run beside me at the end pushing me to keep going. There were so many there at my last obstacle cheering me on and a clean towel was offered to wipe the mud from my face…..and water too! It was all so overwhelming and exhilarating – I absolutely LOVED the water slides!!!

My journey wouldn’t have been possible without the continuous support from my daughter Rael. I want her to know how much she has meant to me to help me get this far.

I can do lunges with correct form (most of the time).

I can jog a mile with NO shin splints.

I completed an 8 hour muscle retreat and lived to brag about it!!!

I can deadlift 155 lbs for 10 reps!

What future goals do you have?

I will become proficient with My Fitness Pal. This will help me to achieve my weight loss goal which is no longer a number on the scale but a body fat percentage!

I have registered for my 2nd Obstacle course which is the Rugged Maniac in April!

I will be able to do a chin up by then!!

What would you tell somebody in your same position as when you started to motivate them to start now?

The high is LEGAL!!

This is something I can count on time after time – no matter what my emotional or physical state of mind is when I get there, I always leave feeling empowered and inspired and STRONG!

I also want to mention my friendship with Rolo, he goes to such great lengths to motivate not just me but so many of us!

Also being able to watch JT become such an awesome instructor – he makes us all feel like we are his “special” project.

I really wanted to say so much more….like how I still get an upset stomach from nervousness before every Bootcamp because every workout is a new surprise of exercises, challenges and conquering fears.

Those fears are real. I’m sure I’m not the only one that feels like that….ha! Maybe I am???

The results speak for themselves.
