In my 11 years of personal training, coaching, mentoring programs, 6 years running Slim Fit Weight Loss and finally for the past 2 years running my outdoor fitness bootcamps in New Port Richey, FL I’ve learned that each client has their own motivating style.
I mean REALLY has their own motivating style!
- -Some clients need the accountability, the nightly phone call or text to keep them from jumping off the fitness cliff on a regular basis.
- -Some clients need the opposite and are so ‘over-the-top’ committed to their new fitness program that I need to help them to find a healthy balance between their new lifestyle and their old.
- -Some clients, while on the surface seem so confident in their lives and in themselves, need to be reassured weekly that they are doing the right thing, that they look better and that you see an improvement in them.
- -Some clients need competition and need to see themselves compared to others to realize their achievements.
Each person, each goal and each challenge needs to be treated and attacked by myself with 100% certainty that the style I choose is appropriate.
Confidence can be iron clad upon achieving success but, it can be quickly destroyed before it’s even molded without the right direction and coaching at the beginning.
A newbie, a beginner, a rookie…whatever you want to call them, needs to be treated like an egg. Fragile on the surface, but capable of developing into something that you aren’t even capable of imagining yet.
Then, every once in a while, you have a new client who shows up, does well at anything you throw at her, but doesn’t overly excel or have weaknesses initially.
This is the “In the Shadows” client.
A person who is so internally motivated that they push past physical limitations and overcome them with willpower and determination.
A person that knows that the results she wants will come with some hard work, but yet never complains.
A person that when pushed by stronger or younger challengers, puts her head down and gets to work.
A person who doesn’t stop when she’s tired, but when the job is finished.

This person is Claudia Bender. A 45 year old mother who started with me 7 weeks ago after being pushed by her nephew who attends my bootcamp.
Yesterday on Facebook she said to a fellow bootcamper, “Thanks Melanie, you guys are amazing! Best thing I ever did, after my kids that is, LOL.”
In just 7 short weeks, Claudia has:

-Went from 24.75% bodyfat down to 20.34% body fat

-Lost an amazing 2-1/4″ off EACH THIGH

**UPDATE Transformation Tuesday Story
Wow, it’s amazing to read this and think how much has changed, yet also stayed the same with Claudia.
In the past year, unfortunately, Claudia has become one of the primary care givers for her mother who suffered a stroke. Her mom has had to retrain all motor functions in an attempt regain an independent life again. Claudia’s new strength has made this possible without having to suffer several injuries of her own as most adults do in these circumstances.
On a happy note, she has also become a grandmother!! With her newfound energy and increased endurance, I’m confident she’ll be able to chase her granddaughter for years and years to come 🙂
During this time, which most people would refer to as “CHAOS” in their life, Claudia has continued to work as teacher full time, she participates in extra curricular school programs, she’s maintained a social life (as evident by her Facebook page!) and most importantly continued to better herself so that she can live her best life possible.
Has she missed workouts here and there? Of course!
Has she always come back and worked harder each time? Of course!
Has she become a leaner, stronger and healthier version of herself a year ago? Of course!
Anyone, with any condition, at any age, with any previous injury or life situation could become the next success story.
The question is, will you make the choice or make an excuse?
The choice really is yours and no one else’s. Ouch, that’s a harsh but true reality!
Only YOU can make the choice to make yourself a better version of YOU.
Waiting for a ‘better time’ gets you no where, stuck or even worse….WORSE.
Because no matter what your personal motivating style is, if you never start, you can’t be help!
Congratulations Claudia for taking control of your life.
You inspire others around you every day.
