This week for Transformation Tuesday I wanted to spotlight several top performers from our most recent 28 Day Fat Flush challenge.
While it’s always appropriate to use the disclaimer “results not typical”, I think at this point it’s safe to say I’m pretty used to seeing these mind blowing results time after time, challenge after challenge.
After all, we work hard for our results.
To think that spectacular results can be achieved without incredibly hard work is naïve.
For above average results, it takes an above average effort.
For mind blowing results, it takes a mind blowing effort.
With effort and hard work, amazing transformations can happen. And that is exactly what DID happen….again!

- Sharon Smith continued her amazing transformation story and just hit her 80 pound weight loss mark and lost 13″ in this challenge!

32% of all participants lost more than 10 pounds of body fat
- Tommy Baker was our ‘Flex Friday’ feature on Facebook for losing a ridiculous 47.53 pounds of fat…I had to re-measure him twice to believe it!
- Kim Montgomery is another incredible transformation who’s story can be read here, lost another 19.41 pounds of fat
- Gwen Lawton in her first month back to bootcamp lost 17.23 pounds of fat
- Darlene Otto lost 15.88 pounds of fat
- Dianna ‘Putt’ Mullen lost 15.4 pounds of fat
51% of all participants lost more than 3.5% body fat
To some people, that number doesn’t make sense. All they’ve ever used to track their results are the number on the scale or a BMI chart at their doctors office.
To lose 3.5% of your entire body’s fat in one month is unheard of with traditional weight loss programs that do not emphasize exercise.
Each one of these people averaged only 3.7 workouts per week and followed a 1,300-1,600 calorie plan packed with healthy carbs and protein.
That’s real results, from real everyday people, with a normal life with real everyday problems.

These numbers are way more important than the false hope that shows like the Biggest Loser give the public.
The results on the show which often reach 10 pounds a week, with 20-25 pounds lost not uncommon for first and last week, should not be surprising when you calculate the caloric deficit achieved from 4-6 hours of daily training and physical activity, combined with low calorie dieting.
But that’s not normal. Who has 4-6 hours a day to exercise? Get a life!
What many fans of Biggest Loser seem to ignore is that weight loss is not the same as fat loss.
Body weight includes muscle, bones, internal organs, water, glycogen (stored carbs used for energy) and don’t forget the contents of the digestive tract.
The weight loss on The Biggest Loser is deceiving to the viewers since much of the loss is water.
Many of the contestants are losing muscle and other lean tissue.
The solution would be simple if they would judge the competition on body composition, not body weight.
Body fat testing is admittedly subject to human error, but I’m pretty sure they can afford use gold standard testing methods such as hydrostatic weighing or DEXA scans.
What’s most alarming to me is that because the show is judged on weight loss, not body composition, contestants are penalized for gaining muscle and actually rewarded for losing muscle.
Think about that one for a while.
