When identifying a Transformation Tuesday feature each week there are several things that go into who I will choose. When most people think of a transformation they think of physical changes.

But transformations can happen in many ways. Mental, physical and spiritual changes occur around us on a day-to-day basis.

To me the best transformations occur when faced with adversity.

Just like a piece of coal under pressure that becomes a diamond or friction against a surface that results in a beautiful polished finished product.

ad·ver·si·ty
ədˈvərsədē/
(noun)
definition- difficulties; misfortune.
“resilience in the face of adversity”

You see, it’s not adversities that define us but rather how we overcome them that show our true character. I thought this would be a perfect to discuss today, the day after Memorial Day.exercise adversity

So often people these days let an injury, an illness or some other factor that is out of their control to determine their success and who they are.

What if adversity held back our forefathers, our military, our favorite role models or some of my best client ever?

What makes these people so special and their story so great is everything that they had to overcome to get to that point. That’s the part that we all respect , admire and look up to.

So what is holding you back? What is something that you’ve been putting off because of some form of adversity you’re facing?

Tugg, my dog!

Before you think I am crazy for mentioning my dog in a Transformation Tuesday story consider this…

Before his first birthday he had two major knee surgeries that required the bones in his lower leg to be cut , rotated and reattached by screws and hardware.

Now if this were you and I we would’ve been in bed hoping someone would wait on us hand and foot. But you know this isn’t how the story is going to go…

Within days of injuring his right leg (the first injury), he was learning how to walk and then eventually run on three legs. He even got to be pretty quick running around as a tripod.

After his first surgery and rehabilitation to start walking again he injured his other back leg (the strong left leg) that he had been hopping around on for the previous three months.

So now we have a dog with a surgically repaired right back leg, a new torn knee on the opposite back leg and no idea of whether he would be able to get around and have a normal life of a dog again.

Well guess what? Within days again he was now learning how to walk and run on three legs again, except this time it was on his surgically repaired right leg that he had not put pressure on an almost 5 months.

He’s resilient!

Now it one year and eight months old he is as strong as ever, fast as ever And you can actually see his confidence as a dog growing. He’s got spunk, he’s got personality and most of all he has built 2 of the strongest back legs any dog could ever have.

So what the hell does this have to do with you?

We all face injuries, limitations and obstacles that prevent us from achieving our goals. The role models and people we look up to are just like you. The only difference is that they did not quit and they found a way to be resilient in times of adversity.

Here are a few up-and-coming Transformation Tuesday stories in the making….

Brenda Miller

Despite injuries to her shoulder, feet, toes, knees and maybe a few other things in between she has continued to be consistent with her workouts, modifies exercises and make progress. What Brenda is not lacking though is heart. She wants to be stronger. She wants to be healthier. She isn’t going to let excuses get in her way.

In the past 30 days Brenda has dropped 3% body fat and over 6 pounds of fat!

Hope Taylor

Here is a woman who is a teacher, mother of 4 and going to school for her masters degree! Hope has struggled with knee pain and has to modify exercises when necessary but has found a love in lifting heavy. While others might be sitting on an exercise bike (or even worse on a couch) she continues to workout 3, 4 and even 5 days a week.

Since August she has lost 47 pounds of fat!

Dawn Whytas

I’m pretty sure when she started bootcamp she didn’t speak her first word until the second or third month 🙂

Not only is Dawn shy, but she also has had some serious shoulder issues. Most people wouldn’t even start bootcamp and would use this as an excuse. Nope, not Dawn. She is now (dare I say) the social butterfly of our 7pm bootcamp group and she is also now doing pushups, rows and other exercises that weren’t even imaginable just a few months ago.

Dawn has also lost 25 pounds of fat since November!

So what about you?

Will you let injuries, lack of time or some other excuse define you?

Sometimes you just need to get out of your own way, get out of your comfort zone and just do it.

You never know until you know.

We help modify exercises every day for clients no matter if it is because of strength, injury or coordination. Everyone has to start somewhere and you only fail if you quit.

After all when you quit you’re giving up on yourself. You are falling short of your potential.

Is that how you want your story to read?

I think you are better than that and I know you are capable of more.

I’m here to help you every step of the way!
