They say every new day is a chance to start over and rewrite your story.
But what happens when you keep replaying the same story in your head over and over? (think of Bill Murray in Groundhogs Day)
Whether we want to believe it or not, our thoughts and decisions are programmed based on previous experiences.
So when you’re confronted with a new choice or decision, your brain will try to activate the closest memory/feeling/reaction to that bears resemblance to previous experiences.
This is why when some people say “no matter what I try, I always struggle” or something to that effect.
Sure maybe they are ‘trying’ something new, but the person doing the ‘trying’ is still the same person.
So while physically they might be attempting something, mentally they are already convinced that they are going to fail.
They are half committed without even realizing it!
How do you stop this from happening to you?
By realizing that different strategies lead to different outcomes.
By realizing that you can only control the ingredients, not the result.
By realizing that any progress in the right direction is more progress than previously.
By realizing every setback makes you human, but every month off makes you a quitter.
By realizing that no matter how slow or what path you choose, you are going to have to eventually modify because there is NO PERFECT PATH!
Just like a GPS that is constantly course correcting and navigating you in the most efficient path, you are going to have to do the same with your fitness plan.
Being in-shape is really not that complex of a strategy…
Eat healthier foods, move more frequently and consistently. The end.
So instead of this all-or-nothing approach, realize that if your recipe is not coming out the way you’d like all you need to do is change the ingredients…not the baker!
Stop searching for the perfect plan or perfect recipe. You are setting unrealistic expectations that there is some ‘mythical weight loss plan’ that is going to save you.
Each of us is so different and unique that we will all have our own personal recipe. You cannot copy someone else’s, you must learn on your own.
And the only way to discover this perfect recipe for yourself is to start today, don’t ever stop and don’t ever look back!
