There is a HUGE problem with the fitness community and after 14 years in this industry it’s SO OBVIOUS!
NO ACCOUNTABILITY.
Truth #1- I could write you the best workout program in the world but if you never use them, you won’t be successful.
Truth #2- I could write you a perfect meal plan but if you never buy, cook and prepare the food, you won’t be successful.
Truth #3- I could give you top of line equipment that top professionals use but if you never show up, you won’t be successful.
But year after year gyms take your money with little care or emphasis on the reason you joined: TO GET RESULTS!
Why has this happened and where did personal trainers go wrong?
Well the title is called Personal Training yet the word “PERSONAL” has been missing for quite a few years….or more.
Rewind just 14 short years ago when I initially became a certified personal trainer when gym memberships were $30, $40 and even $50 and personal training started $400-600 per month.
A gym membership was a commodity and hiring a personal trainer was a luxury.
Then Planet Fitness came along and turned the gym industry upside down with $10 gym memberships with all the amenities of higher priced gyms.
So instead of gyms rising up, setting themselves apart and serving their clients better, gyms around the country started trying to compete on pricing and lowering their rates.
This has led to dirtier gyms with young untrained staff and a constant focus on signing up more and more and more people every day to stay in business.
Trainers were left to fend for themselves in depleted gyms with unmotivated members.
This led to more trainers taking on second jobs and personal training became their ‘part-time’ job. This resulted in less hours, focus and attention for their client’s results.
Unfortunately but fortunately for you, most of these trainers are no longer trainers.
Then Crossfit entered the fitness world and made working out cool again.
Yoga pants and gym clothes have become the norm for at-home, shopping, workouts, hang-outs and any other reason you find the excuse to wear them!
The beautiful thing that Crossfit brought back to the fitness world was coaching, motivation and client attention.
It also found a great middle ground in pricing between the lack of attention you received at the $10 gyms and the hefty $300+ price tag you’re stuck with in personal training. Being in the $150-200 price range was a much more affordable option for a lot more people.
But as time goes on trainers and business owners started getting lazy and using more and more computerized systems to ‘coach’ their clients.
On the surface for the trainer this seems to be efficient: working smarter not harder right?
THE PROBLEM IS THAT YOU LOSE…
…EXCEPT YOU LOSE MONEY INSTEAD OF INCHES!
The accountability, customization and personal touch you need to be successful is missing.
Making a transformation is hard. Very hard. Very very hard.
