Looking For A New Port Richey Personal Trainer, Fitness and Nutrition Coach ?

“Do you visualize yourself as a living sculpture? Yes, definitely. Good bodybuilders have the same mind when it comes to sculpting, than a sculptor has. If you analyze it, you look in the mirror and you say, okay, I need a bit more deltoids…so that the proportion’s right, and…you exercise and put those deltoids on, whereas an artist would just slap on some clay on each side.” –Arnold Schwarzenegger

The key word and root to the entire success of the previous quote starts with “analyze”. How often have you looked in the mirror and critiqued yourself? Chances are it happens more often than you think.

How many times have you started a new diet, jumped right into it, only to fall off track a few weeks later?

How many “next Monday’s” have you started?

Or, are you the opposite? The person who grinds out set after set, day after day in the gym. Works out just as hard or harder than anyone else, yet don’t have the results you’d like?

I was that person and that’s why I have became a New Port Richey Personal Trainer.

I was a high school and college baseball player who was always told by coaches and scouts that “I wasn’t big enough” or “needed to be stronger”.  So I was that person who pushed and pushed. Self analyzing at every opportunity and obsessing over my weak points.

Sound familiar?

After 5 years of good dieting, countless hours in the gym and gallons of sweat I had gotten stronger and noticeably bigger.  I felt proud of my new muscle and changing physique but deep down I was always striving for more. I knew something was missing but, I continued to push harder and harder.

One day, a man walked into my work,  who would literally forever change my life. That man, while easily in his forties, had enormous shoulders, veins running through his arms and a passion in his eyes. That man was 1979 Mr. USA John Defendis. After some back and forth conversation (mostly me grilling him with questions) about bodybuilding and lifting, the life changing question came from John “why don’t you send me over your diet and training program and I’ll take a look and send you my feedback.”

Did he just say what I thought he said? Why is he going to look at my diet and my training program? Wait a second…what is my diet? …and what is my training program?

I had done the same training routine for years, drank protein shakes, ate protein bars, took all the latest supplements, and thought I knew it all…but could I write it out? I spent all night typing up my email to John.  When it was finished, I was confident he would look at it and realize I knew what I was doing. My only hope was that he’d have a little tip or some new supplement to try.

The next morning I woke up excited to see if I had a reply email. Sure enough he had emailed me back. I opened it eagerly anticipating his praise of how good my diet and training program was.

And then I read the first sentence:

“Derek…Boy…This needs a lot of work…

Switch EXACTLY to this…”

What followed was the most strict diet I had ever seen, including enough food to feed a family of four for a week…and that was supposed to be my daily portion!

The training program looked like an encyclopedia of exercises and that was only the first back and biceps workout!

But now I had a plan. I had an expert in control. It was like entering the coordinates into a Garmin or GPS and putting my mind 100% on the task at hand.

No longer did I have the distractions.

What distractions you ask? Most likely the same ones you face daily. Am I eating too much? Am I eating too little? Did I do enough sets today? If 10 sets is good, 20 must be better right? How much cardio should I do? What fat burner will get me ripped????

(by the way, his plan include ABSOLUTELY NO CARDIO and to this day you will never find me on a treadmill!)

It’s amazing what happens to a person when you take away all the distractions of daily life, doubt and lack of confidence. What unveils is stronger, more focused and driven person.

I became that person, and I have now spent the past 10 years of my life helping people find that same strength, focus and drive.

Being a personal trainer and sports nutritionist has provided me a platform to educate, inspire and lead people to a better life.

I take great pride in helping people find a passion for fitness that previously wasn’t possible due to constant failures and misguided diet struggles.

Before every road trip you need your destination, method of transportation and the directions to get there. Yet even though we constantly critique and self analyze our flaws, we seldom sit down and develop a goal, a fitness regimen and the game plan to get there.

Just as Arnold famously quoted above, I look at each client as a sculpture. I go over in depth with each client their specific goals, target body parts, strengths and weakness.

Together we establish checkpoints or benchmarks for each specific goal and the plan to get there to ensure each client achieves their own personal masterpiece!
