It’s Monday and the start of another week. Most parents are operating on overdrive right now getting their kids prepped for their first week of school next week, on top of the usual day-to-day stress you already endure.

And for the rest of us, we’re probably feeling the effects of their stress whether we realize it or not.

So what do you do when you get stressed or overwhelmed?

1.) The first thing is to realize that it’s okay to feel stress.

2.) The second thing to realize is that you’re probably not going to get everything finished today, so plan ahead and mentally prepare yourself.

3.) The next thing is to write down EVERYTHING you need to complete before Monday rolls around.

4.) Then open up your cell phone calendar and schedule in 30-60 minute blocks all the tasks you need to get done over the weekend.

5.) Lastly, write yourself a copy of your Friday, Saturday and Sunday schedule and tasks so that you can physically CROSS THEM OFF THE LIST.

When there are no more tasks, you win!

But what happens to most of us, like me, is once we’ve completed all our tasks for the day we start looking for ‘extra things’ to fill our time. This leads to more pressure, anxiety and stress.

Instead, start working on the following day or next week’s list and start getting ahead.

Remember that there are MILLIONS of kids going back to school in this country over the next few weeks. You are not alone in your stress and struggles.

So when you’re in traffic or at the store, BE NICE!

If someone is an asshole, well then they are an asshole. You don’t know what they’re going through and truthfully, they probably aren’t as mentally strong and empathetic as you.

That’s THEIR PROBLEM, not yours.

Don’t compound the situation by reacting brashly to their actions. Let their actions be their actions and your actions be your actions. You’ll still get everything you need to get done, but with WAY less stress.

This simple shift in thinking can carry you through the weekend and the upcoming weeks feeling much more accomplished and much less anxiety.

Sounds like a win-win. Good luck. You can do this!
