Starting over….again.

What’s that saying? If at first you don’t succeed; try, try again? Something like that. That sums up where I am. I’ve been fit and health conscience for most of my adult life, but something was missing. As a personal trainer and fitness instructor I rarely made my training sessions my top priority because I was always helping others achieve their best (leaving me with little to no energy). Don’t get me wrong, I loved every moment of it. But, after years of dreaming about competing and wanting to train to compete, I actually made the decision to go for it.

I had hired a trainer whom I felt I could work with. The only thing missing was feedback. As a past trainer I remember always having to adjust the way I spoke to each client to best suit their needs and their personality. Some respond to yelling while others need a good amount of praise and sweet talking. I was always the one who respond well with criticism…positive and negative. You have to take the good with the bad so you can improve and strive to be your best. Everyone is different, we all respond to different things. When setting yourself up for competition you need to have someone who is in line with your goals and who will let you know when your bum is well…still jiggling.

My husband happened to be discussing my progress with Derek Kuryliw of New Port Richey BootCamps and he said he would be willing to take a look at my progress so far. So, onwards I went to meet with Derek and from the moment I walked into his office I knew he would be a cut throat trainer. Derek knows his nutrition and was willing to tailor a program specific to my goals and problem areas. I remember he said something about being selfish. It went something like; are you ready to commit to the next few months? This is the time for you to be absolutely selfish, it’s critical to your success. He was serious. And this is where my journey begins again, taking the time to refocus and dial in all my energy to pursuing my goals and beyond. End of Part 1
