Though you are forewarned when competing that there’s going to be more than just one challenge between diet, prep and the mental drain that you go through to get where you want to be and still ending with “Coulda Shoulda Woulda”. I definitely had my fair share of “Coulda Shoulda Woulda”.

Though I truly believe Peak Week (the week before stepping on stage) was by far the worst weak leading up to my first competition. More than once I said I would never put myself through competing again. I still remember the Friday morning before, oh what fun it is to water load. NOT.

Even after questioning myself and telling others never again, I somehow ended up back on stage this year…not just for one show, but two.

So why you may ask, what changed my thinking or felt different from the first year that even after so many negatives would allow me to step back on stage?

I’m sure you have all heard the quote “it’s not about being the best, it’s about being better than you were yesterday.”

This year when I set out to compete I knew two things: what to expect and that if I wasn’t were I wanted to be I had two choices…..1.) step on stage and focus on the progress that I did make this year or 2.) continue putting in the work and plan for 2018.

Little did I know how much of a transformation my body truly can make in just a year’s time.

I’m learning that no matter how many times you step on stage there’s always going to be some area that you wished you worked on harder, a cheat meal you wished you didn’t eat and a pose you wished you practiced longer.

These things are normal. It’s never bad to want more for yourself and want to see yourself stronger.

But what made this year different was that I found motivation in more than one way.

While in 2016 my motivation came from the two other dedicated ladies that were competing beside me, this year was a little bit different.

With a larger group of competitors and the help from all of the other trainers (as well as VERY early mornings) I was happy with this year’s outcome.

A big shout out to each of the trainers at LiveFit for taking the time to help push me to achieve my goals…from my mentor and boss for putting together a 5:30am PT, to another being flexible with my split day job hours at the gym, to my Friday morning training partners, to the ladies that worked out with me and always lifted me up.

I can’t wait to see what the years ahead bring!
