So watching the opening ceremonies and the first couple of days of the Olympics left a few lasting impressions in my head…

1.) We are not alone

This world is HUGE! But if you watch the news on a daily basis you would be left to think we’re the only nation facing adversity. We’re the only ones facing racism, sexism, terrorism and all the other shitty “-isms” there are.

Well that is WRONG! I saw a world pull together despite color, gender, creed and religion.

Maybe we need to set our hopes, goals and expectations for our country and our world a little higher.

2.) Olympians make mistakes

The biggest complaint or excuse I hear from clients on a daily basis is that they’re afraid ‘they cannot do’ what I’m asking them to do. Well, guess what? I watched hundreds of the top men and women athletes in the world make countless of mistakes.

If these young athletes in the prime of their lives who committed their last 4 years entirely on perfecting their craft still make mistakes, why can’t you?

What these athletes realize is that in order to be great it’s not about how perfect you are, it’s about who takes the greatest risks and makes the fewest mistakes in the process.

Maybe we need to set our goals a little higher so that even when we do make a mistake, our production out weighs any short comings.

3.) Everyone doesn’t have a ‘PERFECT’ body

So you would think that with hours dedicated each day to exercise, a nutritionist watching over them to ensure their bodies are properly fueled and the continuous sacrifice that these athletes have made that they’d all have ‘PERFECT’ bodies.

Well guess what? They do.

While you might look at some athletes and say “they don’t have abs” or “they still have some jiggle in their thighs”…

They have all taken their God given abilities and worked relentlessly to produce the best version of themselves possible.

Maybe we need to set our own body image issues aside and instead focus on making the best version of ourselves as possible.

So my message to you this morning is simple…

Adjust your expectations!

If you aren’t satisfied with how strong our nation is, how many mistakes you’ve made or those few extra pounds of fat hanging onto your mid section it’s up to YOU to do something about it.

Otherwise… be happy with the results you achieve from the effort you put in!

You are capable of greatness too.

You just have to put in the work to get there and keep your eyes open along the way to enjoy the journey 🙂
